Love Jones
Love Jones ★★★ 1996 (R)
A contemporary Chicago nightclub, the Sanctuary, is the gathering spot for middle-class black urbanites looking for romance. Would-be writer/poet Darius (Tate) spouts provocative verse to beautiful photographer Nina (Long), who's not too happy with men at the moment (she's just been dumped). But they make a connection, with both protesting a little too much that's it just a “sex thing.” Funny what happens when love clearly enters the picture. Witcher's directorial debut features fine lead performances. 105m/C VHS, DVD . Larenz Tate, Nia Long, Isaiah Washington IV, Lisa Nicole Carson, Khalil Kain, Bill Bellamy, Leonard Roberts, Bernardette L. Clarke; D: Theodore Witcher; W: Theodore Witcher; C: Ernest Holzman; M: Darryl Jones. Sundance ‘97: Aud. Award.
