Lecturer in Applied Mathematics, University of London, 1946-51; Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, 1951-54, and of Geophysics, 1954-57, University of Toronto; Director, Institute of Earth Science, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, 1957-67; Killam Memorial Professor of Science, and Director, Institute of Earth and Planetary Physics, University of Alberta, Edmonton, 1967-74. Chairman, Canadian National Committee for the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics, 1971-75; Associate Ed., Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors. Publications: (with R.D. Russell and J.T. Wilson) Physics and Geology, 1959; The Earth's Core and Geomagnetism, 1963; Geomagnetic Micropulsations, 1970; A Text Book on Geonomy, 1974; The Earth's Core, 1975; Reversals of the Earth's Magnetic Field, 1984; Deep Interior of the Earth, 1992. Author of scientific papers and encyclopedia articled. Died 2003.
