Everybody's Famous!
Everybody's Famous! ★★½ Iedereen Beroemd! 2000 (R)
Factory worker Jean (De Pauw) is convinced that his teenaged daughter Marva (Van der Gucht) has the talent to become a famous singer, though she suffers from stage fright and seems hopeless. Devoted dad goes to the extreme of kidnapping Debbie (Reuten), a Belgian pop star burned out by her successful career. Jean's demand is that Debbie's lowlife manager (Loew) make Marva a star. Meanwhile, Debbie falls for her young co-kidnapper Willy (De Smedt). It's all played for laughs as it skewers the idea of media madness and fame at any price but there's a warped sweetness at the core as well. Dutch, Flemish, and French with subtitles. 99m/C VHS, DVD . BE Josse De Pauw, Eva Van der Gucht, Werner De Smedt, Thekla Reuten, Victor Low, Gert Portael; D: Dominique Deruddere; W: Dominique Deruddere; C: Willy Stassen; M: Raymond van het Groenewoud.
