Dark Waters ★★ 1944

The drowning death of her parents has left a young woman mentally unstable. She returns to her family home in the backwaters of Louisiana with her peculiar aunt and uncle to serve as guardians. It eventually becomes apparent that someone is trying to drive her insane. This one tends to be rather murky and it's not simply due to the plentiful scenes of misty swampland. 93m/B VHS, DVD . Merle Oberon, Franchot Tone, Thomas Mitchell, Fay Bainter, Elisha Cook Jr., John Qual-en, Rex Ingram; D: Andre de Toth; W: Joan Harrison, Marian Cockrell; C: Archie Stout, John Mes-call; M: Miklos Rozsa.
