The Corruptor
The Corruptor ★★★ 1999 (R)
Slick crime thriller starring Wahlberg as Danny, a young Caucasian cop assigned to New York's Chinatown precinct and partnered with shrewd veteran Chen (Chow Yun-Fat). The two men are drawn into a web of deception and betrayal as they try to stop a war between rival underworld factions. Chow finally receives a Hollywood role that showcases the talents that made him an international star in Asia, although the action segments suffer in comparison to his work with John Woo. The plot and performances are excellent, and there's enough shoot-'emup to satisfy the average appetite for destruction. 110m/C VHS, DVD . Chow Yun-Fat, Mark Wahlberg, Ric Young, Paul BenVictor, Brian Cox, Byron Mann, Kim Chan, Tovah Feldshuh, Jon Kit Lee, Andrew Pang, Elizabeth Lindsey, Bill MacDonald, Susie Trinh; D: James Foley; W: Robert Pucci; C: Juan RuizAnchia; M: Carter Burwell.
