Bubba Ho-Tep
Bubba Ho-Tep ★★★ 2003 (R)
Elvis and JFK team up to battle the dark forces of Egypt, who threaten the residents of their East Texas convalescent home. Believable plot aside, director Coscarelli's delightfully wacky cult-concept comedy still manages to take the whole thing seriously, especially with an inspired performance from Campbell, playing it totally straight. In addition to the presumedkins. dead celebrities and world leaders, the small town of Mud Creek also attracts an Egyptian mummy known as Bubba Ho-Tep, who terrorizes the aged Texans. The feisty King and former Prez gleefully open a king-sized can of whoopass on the ancient terror. While flawed, it's still solid campy fun. Adapted from a short story by Joe Lansdale. 92m/C VHS, DVD . US Bruce Campbell, Ossie Davis, Ella Joyce, Reggie Bannister, Bob Ivy, Larry Pennell, Heidi Marnhout; D: Don A. Coscarelli; W: Don A.
