Background to Danger ★★★1943
A suspenseful WWII actioner about American agent Raft who travels to Turkey to receive secret documents from the soon-to-be-murdered Massen. Green-street is the Nazi master spy who also wants the documents as do Russian spies, Lorre and Marshall. Somewhat confusing plot but fast-paced. Based on the thriller “Uncommon Danger” by Eric Ambler. This film was Warner Bros.' follow-up to “Casablanca” with Raft in the Bogie role he had turned down in that cinema classic. 80m/B VHS . George Raft, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, Brenda Marshall, Osa Massen, Turhan Bey, Kurt Katch; D: Raoul Walsh.
