Art School Confidential ★★ 2006 (R)

Underdeveloped and frequently flat satire about the art world. Idealistic Jerome (Minghella) wants to be the next Picasso when he enters art school. He soon learns it's not about art, it's about hype and commerce. Generic character types include pretentious professor Sandiford (Malkovich), no-talent filmmaker Vince (Suplee), shallow-but-beautiful artists' model Audrey (Myles), drunken failed artist Jimmy (Broadbent), and Jerome's own cynical guide Bardo (Moore). Jerome becomes disillusioned and desperate, and not just because a serial killer is working the neighborhood. Clowes adapted from his comic strip. Buscemi is uncredited as trendy restaurant owner Broadway Bob. 102m/C DVD . US Max Minghella, Sophia Myles, John Malkovich, Jim Broadbent, Matt Keeslar, Ethan Suplee, Anjelica Huston, Joel David Moore, Nick Swardson, Steve Buscemi; D: Terry Zwigoff; W: Daniel Clowes; C: Jamie Anderson; M: David Kitay.
