After Innocence
After Innocence ★★★ 2005
Sanders exposes the cracks in the criminal justice system by examining the cases of seven men—four white and three black—who were convicted on murder and rape charges. Eventually, after spending many years in prison, each was exonerated because of DNA evidence. Also examined are the roadblocks thrown up by authorities who don't want to admit to mistakes, the question of compensation after wrongful imprisonment, and life after release. Documentary was made in collaboration with the nonprofit legal clinic, the Innocence Project, now expanded into the Innocence Network. Since its founding in 1992 more than 160 people have been exonerated through DNA testing. 95m/C DVD. USD: Jessica Sanders; W: Jessica Sanders, Marc H.
