Todi, Luiza Rosa (1753–1833)

Portuguese mezzo-soprano. Born Luiza Rosa Aguiar in Setubal, Portugal, on January 9, 1753; died in Lisbon, Portugal, on October 1, 1833.

Luiza Todi was an actress at 15 before becoming a pupil of Lisbon conductor Davide Perez. She sang in London in 1772 and was extremely successful in Madrid in 1777. In 1780, Todi was a court singer in Berlin. Three years later, she provoked a famous rivalry with Gertrud Mara .
