Foix, Janine-Marie de (fl. 1377)

French soldier. Flourished in 1377 in France.

Few facts are available about the remarkable life of Janine-Marie de Foix, a French peasant who fought for King Charles V. Most medieval women's military careers involved planning and leading troops as feudal landholders or queens. Ja-nine-Marie, however, was a common footsoldier, who held no special place in Charles' army but fought alongside her compatriots for three years.
