Born on November 12, 1547; died in 1575; daughter of Catherine de Medici (1519–1589) and Henry II (b. 1519), king of France (r. 1547–1559); sister of Francis II, king of France, Elizabeth of Valois , queen of Spain, Charles IX, king of France, Henry III, king of France, Margaret of Valois , and half-sister of Diane de France (1538–1619); married Charles II, duke of Lorraine (r. 1545–1608); children: Henry I, duke of Lorraine (r. 1608–1624); Christine of Lorraine (c. 1571–1637, who married Ferdinand I, grand duke of Tuscany); Francis II, duke of Lorraine (r. 1624–1625).
