Mucor (family Mucoraceae) A genus of fungi in which colourless, branched or unbranched sporangiophores arise from the substrate mycelium and bear at their tips spherical sporangia containing many spores. Zygospores are brown to black with warty surfaces. Species are common on soil, dung, fruit, vegetables, etc. and distribution is cosmopolitan. They may cause spoilage of bread, fruit, and other foods.
