ban·di·coot / ˈbandiˌkoōt/ • n. a mainly insectivorous marsupial (family Peramelidae) native to Australia and New Guinea. Several genera and species, some of which are endangered or extinct, include the short-nosed bandicoot (Isodon obesulus).
