CQ ★★ 2001 (R)
It's 1969 and film editor Paul (Davies) is in Paris working on an arty futuristic thriller for egotistical director Andrezej (Depardieu) while filming his own black and white personal documentary. When the film's producer, Enzo (Giannini), fires the director, Paul winds up with the gig and has to come up with the slambang ending Enzo is demanding. Also demanding is leading lady Valentine (Lindvall), who is paying extra attention to her new director, which distracts Paul from the film and his French girlfriend Marlene (Bouchoz). Paul's a dull character and the film suffers for it but it's not bad for a first effort from Coppola (son of Francis and brother of Sofia). 92m/C VHS, DVD . US Jeremy Davies, Elodie Bouchez, Angela Lindvall, Gerard Depardieu, Giancarlo Giannini, Massimo Ghini, Jason Schwartzman, Billy Zane, John Phillip Law, Dean Stockwell; D: Roman Coppola; W: Roman Coppola; C: Robert Yeoman.
