Description: Independent, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1883. Setting: 105-acre urban campus with easy access to New York City. Endowment: $9 million. Total enrollment: 2,218. Faculty: 188 (95 full-time, 93 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 16:1. 2,425 applied, 50% were admitted. 21% from top 10% of their high school class, 48% from top quarter, 91% from top half. 24 class presidents, 7 valedictorians, 63 student government officers. Full-time: 1,780 students, 59% women, 41% men. Part-time: 46 students, 72% women, 28% men. Students come from 38 states and territories, 14 other countries, 48% from out-of-state, 0.1% Native American, 5% Hispanic, 5% black, 2% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 2% international, 5% 25 or older, 70% live on campus, 3% transferred in. Recommended: minimum 3.0 high school GPA, interview, SAT II: Subject Tests, SAT II: Writing Test. Required for some: interview, SAT II: Subject Tests. Entrance: moderately difficult. Application deadlines: 2/15, 12/1 for early decision. Notification: 3/1, 1/1 for early decision.

Costs Per Year: Application fee: $50. Comprehensive fee: $31,400 includes full-time tuition ($23,900) and college room and board ($7500). Part-time tuition: $2650 per course.

Collegiate Environment: Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 66 open to all; national fraternities, national sororities, local fraternities, local sororities; 18% of eligible men and 15% of eligible women are members.
