Description:

Independent, university, coed, affiliated with Roman Catholic Church. Awards bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and first professional degrees and post-master's certificates. Founded 1887. Setting: 144-acre urban campus. Endowment: $171.6 million. Research spending 2003-04: $20 million. Total enrollment: 5,981. Faculty: 704 (354 full-time, 350 part-time). Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 9:1. 2,744 applied, 82% were admitted. 22% from top 10% of their high school class, 57% from top quarter, 88% from top half. Full-time: 2,659 students, 55% women, 45% men. Part-time: 251 students, 65% women, 35% men. Students come from 52 states and territories, 36 other countries, 93% from out-of-district, 0.1% Native American, 5% Hispanic, 7% black, 3% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 2% international, 11% 25 or older, 66% live on campus, 3% transferred in. Application fee: $55. One-time mandatory fee: $365. Comprehensive fee: $35,838 includes full-time tuition ($24,800), mandatory fees ($1200), and college room and board ($9838). College room only: $5646. Full-time tuition and fees vary according to program. Room and board charges vary according to board plan and housing facility. Part-time tuition: $940 per credit. Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 100 open to all; 1% of eligible men and 1% of eligible women are members. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service, controlled dormitory access, controlled access of academic buildings. 2,101 college housing spaces available; 1,961 were occupied in 2003-04. Mullen Library plus 7 others with 1.6 million books, 1.1 million microform titles, 5,907 serials, 39,136 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page.
