Vertisols
Vertisols Mineral soils, an order of soils that contain more than 30 per cent by weight swelling clay (e.g. montmorillonite), and that expand when wet and contract when dry to produce a self-inverting soil and an undulating (gilgai) microrelief. Vertisols are associated with seasonally wet and dry environments, and are extensive in the tropics, forming beneath grassland.
