post-climax In the monoclimax model of climax vegetation development, the term given to communities differing from the climatic climax because of having cooler and/or moister conditions than are characteristic of the regional climate. Such conditions occur typically at higher elevations, especially on the windward slopes of mountain ranges. See also CLIMAX THEORY; compare PRE-CLIMAX.
