Grigny, Nicolas de
Grigny, Nicolas de, French organist and composer; b. Rheims (baptized), Sept. 8, 1672; d. there, Nov. 30, 1703. He was born into a musical family; his father and grandfather were organists in Rheims. After going to Paris, he served as organist at the abbey church of St. Denis (1693-95). He then returned to Rheims, where he became cathedral organist about 1697. He publ. Premier livre d’orgue contenant une messe et les hymnes des principalles festes de I’annee (Paris, 1699; modern ed. by N. Dufourcq and N. Pierront, Paris, 1953).
