Gazzelloni, Severino

Gazzelloni, Severino, outstanding Italian flutist and teacher; b. Roccasecca, Frosinone, Jan. 5, 1919; d. Cassino, near Rome, Nov. 21, 1992. He studied with Giambattista Creati and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, graduating in 1942. In 1945 he made his formal debut in Rome, and then was 1st flutist in the RAI Orch. there for some 3 decades. He also pursued an international career as a soloist and recitalist of the first magnitude, excelling in an expansive repertoire ranging from the Baroque masters to the most demanding exponents of the contemporary avant-garde. Many composers wrote works especially for him. He taught at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, as well as abroad.
