Bárdos, Lajos, Hungarian choral conductor, musicologist, and composer; b. Budapest, Oct. 1, 1899; d. there, Nov. 18, 1986. He studied composition with Siklós and Kodály at the Budapest Academy of Music, where he then taught (1928–67). He also conducted Budapest’s Cecilia Chorus (1926–41), Palestrina Chorus (1929–33), Chorus (1941–47), and St. Matyas Choir (1942–62). He publ. books on Liszt (1968, 1976), Bartók (1970, 1971), Stravinsky (1971), and Kodály (1972). Among his compositions were choral and chamber pieces.
